SPARE THE ROD
DAILY GRACE
SUN. 20TH NOV, 2016
TOPIC: SPARE THE ROD
TEXT: PROV. 13:24
Happy Sunday to you beloved. The Lord will cause His face to shine on you in Jesus' name. "Whoever spares the rod hates their children, but the one who loves their children is careful to discipline them."
The education of children is good and there is necessary due correction of them for what is amiss, every child of ours is a child of Adam, and therefore has that foolishness bound up in its heart which calls for rebuke, more or less, the rod and reproof which give wisdom.
The rod of a parent must be use, directed by wisdom and love, and designed for good, not the rod of a servant and it is good to begin with the necessary restraints of children from that which is evil, before vicious habits are confirmed. The branch is easily bent when it is tender.
Those really hate their children, though they pretend to be fond of them, that do not keep them under a strict watch and discipline, and by all proper methods. They abandon them to their worst enemy, to the most dangerous disease, and therefore hate them. Let this reconcile children to the correction their good parents give them; it is from love, and for their good(Heb. 12:7-9).
You and l are children in the hands of God and often times He disciplines us as He wills, especially when He deems fit.
He does so to sharpen, remould and beautify us according to His will and purpose.
Any attempt from making Him deviating from this crucial assignment means that He does not love us, but He does. Hence, the reason we need to count it all joy whenever He disciplines us. As God's children we have our responsibility to His discipline upon us and they are;
1.Do not take His discipline light or with levity.
2. Do not loose heart but be encouraged whenever He rebukes you.
3. Know that He disciplines you because of His love towards you.
4. Know that He chastens anyone He
accepts as His own dear son.
5. Endure hardship as disciplined and as a true soldier of Christ.
6. Know that if you are not disciplined by Him, then you ae not a bonafide child of His.
(Hebrews 12:5-9).
Remember that Jesus is your shepherd and as a shepherd He uses His rod and staff to comfort you.
Rod is used to discipline, correct and rebuke you while Staff is to guide or direct your path. Again, the rod is a weapon of defence or discipline, symbolising God's strength.
The Lord's staff is used by Him to draw you to Himself, guide you in the right way and rescue you from the troubles of life. Both of them assures us of His love and guidance as His children.
Hence, embrace His discipline as it keeps you spiritually fit and makes you to please the Father after all.
Enjoy your day!
Personal Confession: Lord Jesus, please discipline me where needed in Jesus' name.
